Joy Kettler Gurgevich received her degree in Nutritional Sciences at the University of Arizona, where she is a preceptor at Dr. Andrew Weil's Center for Integrative Medicine. In her private practice in Tucson, The Joy of Food & Yoga, she specializes in helping individuals make wholesome food choices that support a healthy lifestyle for mind, body, and spirit. JOY is also a Certified Yoga Teacher and has had a personal yoga practice for over 35 years.
Joy's "practical training" in nutrition began over forty years ago when, as a Montessori teacher, she embraced a personal and very passionate quest to use nutrition for optimizing health and well-being. Now, in her second career as a behavioral nutritionist, she uses the same experiential techniques of Dr. Maria Montessori to guide her nutrition practice.
Joy lives in Tucson, Arizona, with her husband, Steven Gurgevich, who is a psychologist specializing in mind-body medicine and applications of medical hypnosis. They share a professional practice together at Behavioral Medicine, Ltd. They live near Sabino Canyon Park, by Coronado National Forest, where they tend to their organic garden and cook delicious meals together, especially enjoying chili Colorado, curries, and vegetarian and vegan cuisine.
Joy and Steven have five grown children. Joy’s children are Matt Shaughnessy and daughter-in-law, Connie, and grandsons Christian and Luca, Brennan Shaughnessy and daughter-in-law Becki, Meghann Anthony and son-in-law Nick Anthony, Maeve Shaughnessy, and Steven's daughter, Elise Gurgevich, son-in-law Donald Butts, and grandson Demetri.
